Do it Again


The true mark is 'repeating' - it signifies consistent excellence. (Go Lakers, get that back-to back!)

1. In fitness, no matter how strong or fast you are, you're not effective unless you can do it repeatedly.

2. ATP (Adenosine TriPhospahate) is the key compound controlling this.
a.) Your ATP is depleted in about 30 seconds. (ie. you only have maximum exertion for about 30 secs)
b.) You then have to rely on other energy systems, whilst the ATP is replenished.

3. ATP replinishment takes
a.) about 20 secs to get 50% recovery
b.) about 40 secs for 75%
c.) about 60 secs for 90%
d.) about 3 mins for 100%

4. In the meantime your options are to get energy from your anaerobic system and 2 potential sources
a.) Lactic acid
b.) Alactic acid

5. Lactic acid can be broken down to form ATP
a.) You know what it feels like to have lactic acid in your system, as it put pressure on your nerve endings (giving you that heavy feel)
